Head and Founder

After giving birth to my eldest daughter, Poppy, I decided to leave my career in the music business and prepare for parenthood by becoming a Montessori Teacher. Over 20 years ago and two more daughters later, Jemima and Sophie, I have never looked back! The sheer joy of being able to nurture a child's natural inquisitiveness and expand his/her horizons is so rewarding. In my spare time I enjoy relaxing with my family, going to the theatre, music, walking the family dog and looking after our two horses.

I set up Jelly Beans in 2004 and today I am delighted that we have grown the Jelly Beans family into a busy and popular Nursery.

Bailey Pugh

Room Leader

I am a qualified Level 3 practitioner. I left school going straight into college to learn childcare and knew I wanted to work with children. My family also work within childcare and I grew up knowing that was what I wanted to do. Away from work I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love to sing and I am a huge Disney fan. My future ambitions are to one day become a manager or have my own nursery and I am always keen to learn new things. I have always been interested in child psychology and maybe one day I will develop this further.

Lisa Oxenham

Office Manager

I have lived in Hockley for the past 15 years but recently moved out to the countryside of Stambridge. I have four children ranging from the age of 6 up to 23 years old. I achieved a Degree in European Business after leaving school and I have been working in education for the past 16 years in various roles including teaching, learning support, pastoral administration and more recently a PA within an Academy Trust. Outside of the office I am very involved with my local church as well as enjoying time with my family, friends and walking my border collie.

I’ve worked in childcare for over 17 years, in and around the Southend area and also in Peterborough and have recently achieved my Montessori Level 2 qualification. I’m a mum to 3 children, a son of 25 and 2 daughters of 21 and 19. I love spending time with my family and I'm a keen football fan with a season ticket to Southend United.

Melanie Bartlett

Deputy Manager

I joined Jelly Beans at the beginning of January 2018 after working for 10 years with Tumble Tots, during which time I studied and gained my Level 2 Childcare qualification. I have recently started studying for my Montessori teacher qualification.  I’m very excited to be part of the team and it’s been lovely getting to know the children and work with them each day. I live locally with my husband, daughter and two lively Jack Russell’s and enjoy spending time on family dog walks, cinema, going to the theatre and listening to music.

Poppy Drummond

Lead Teacher

I came to Jelly Beans after university to work in the St Nicholas room before moving to Open Air. During that time I studied for my teaching qualification in Early Years.  I spent a year in New Zealand in 2019 where I experienced their Early Years Curriculum (Te Whariki). I now work within the St Nicolas Room and am currently studying for a Masters in Educational Psychology. I absolutely love reading, especially Harry Potter!

Growing up as an only child led me to my current career path and love of children. I am a Level 3 qualified childcare practitioner based in the Santa Maria room. I love being able to watch the children grow and develop whilst at nursery. Currently I am studying for my Montessori Level 2 qualification where I am learning lots of valuable skills and look forward to putting these into practise. In my spare time I enjoy listening to music, meeting new people and travelling.

Early Years Practitioner

I have worked with children for over 16 years, mostly 0 to 5 years in nurseries and preschools and also with school aged children, in my role as a childminder and at my church youth club. I am passionate about helping children to progress and I particularly like being outdoors, and helping children with creative activities. My qualifications include level 4 City and Guilds, childcare and development workforce. I have studied extensively with ECaT, Every Child a Talker, which has helped me to understand how children`s speech and language develop and how to use strategies to engage them to progress. I have also studied Special Educational and Disability Needs within an educational setting. My hobbies include swimming, cycling, reading, sewing and spending time with my family and labradoodle dog Jasper.

Early Years Practitioner

I knew from a very young age that I wanted a career working with children. Having qualified from college as a Level 3 practitioner, I immediately started work on a primary studies and child psychology degree with the Open University. In the future I would like to become a primary school teacher.  I am outgoing and love to learn new things. When I'm not studying I enjoy going out with friends, listening to music and going to the gym.

I am an apprentice working towards getting my Level 2&3 Childcare qualifications.
